It is great as it allows professionals to network with other people and businesses - be they a programmer, graphic design agency, artist, marketer, salesperson, whoever. I had been made redundant and was looking for a new job in the financial sector. I decided to list my profile on LinkedIn. Within a couple of days I had made lots of new connections from all over the world. I had been offered a number of job interviews which I was very pleased about. I am pleased to say I have found employment due to this particular networking site. It is great being able to list qualifications and experience. Without the site I probably would have really struggled to find employment. I think LinkedIn is ideal for anyone with tertiary qualifications and lots of experience. I am glad it is a free service otherwise I do not think I would have bothered. I often recommend the site to my friends who have degrees who may want another job.

Is There Ever Enough Storage Space? posted on 29 December 2011 in Home and Garden I love almost everything about my house - it has a timber frame building and in fact, a lot of timber is used throughout the house. We’ve lived here just over two years, and plan on staying for a long time. It’s on a quiet dead-end street with a small river at one end and protected park land running behind our yard. The only thing that I would change is the amount of storage space we have. You see, the house is a Cape, which means the ceilings upstairs are slanted in some spots. The closets are tucked into these odd corners, which works great in terms of not having wasted space in the room, but leads to the closets being oddly shaped. Plus, there is no attic, just two small eave spaces, one of which also stores our furnace. Because we do not have a basement either, to put the furnace in. There is no garage as well. So our water heater is in the laundry room, which doubles as a pantry, and all our yard and camping equipment is in the shed. So to make this house perfect, I’d like to add some more space to it by squaring off the upstairs rooms. This would make the closets normal shapes and would allow for a regular attic to put the Christmas decorations and out-of-season clothes in. This would really make the house perfect: location, character, and space.

About My Horrible Trip To The Mall posted on 28 December 2011 in Business and Finance Now I don't go to the mall often, usually just around Christmas, so when I do go I am always surprised at how packed it is. When I do get to the mall it takes forever to find a spot to park, and of course the spot I do find is a mile away from the door. So I quickly make my way to the doors, it's late December remember so it's freezing, and enter the mall. The game plan at this point is to get what I have to buy quickly and get out so I can get back to my comfy and warm home. I only have a few people to buy for and I know exactly what I need to buy so I am probably in the mall for only about an hour. I wish it was as easy as buying for my employees - as a boss, they're glad to get anything extra from me(!), and I always get them something practical - this year I got them branded usb flash drives for Christmas. But the mall and shopping for family and friends? At the mall, the people in the stores ringing me up were very friendly, and surprisingly pretty cheerful, but during this time my toes are stepped on two separate times by very rude people and I am pushed once. I did get 3 Merry Christmases and a Happy Holidays during my travels through the mall. As I head back to my car I am almost hit by an old lady not watching where she was going. I get to my car and drive home as safely and quickly as I can. When I get back to my house and after I put away my purchases, I get myself settled in front of the TV and think to myself Thank goodness I don't have to do that for another year.

Janice wanted to see her right away because she just found out that the film they have been waiting for was finally showing in cinemas. In her mind, Janet wanted to decline Janice's invitation because she knew that she needed to attend to more important matters. But then, she started to notice a problem with laptop keyboard and she knew that if she continues doing her work, it will just make her upset in the long run. And so Janet got dressed and watched the film with Janice. She had so much fun that she forgot that she had to bring her laptop to the repair shop to have it fixed before it gets dark. When she got home, she knew that she was in trouble. Nevertheless, she tried her best to finish what needed to be done. It took longer than usual but thankfully, she managed to get it through. The next day, Janet was ready to hand in her report and she was happy because she knew it was a product of hard work.

The Pain of Having a Dad Who Works Far Away posted on 27 December 2011 in Uncategorised I was very young when my father started to work as a seaman. It was not easy to have a father who was far away most of the time. There were instances when I thought mom could no longer compensate for his absence, no matter how much she tried. I felt mom's longing for a partner. There were times when dad would not contact us because a safeharbor isn't so easy to find all the time. It worried us terribly when dad fails to call. Mom has told me a couple of times how much she would want for dad to be home and be with us. If only your dad could find a decent job here, he wouldn't have to go elsewhere anymore. But reality bites. We all knew that dad needed his job, otherwise, I would not be able to go to a good school and we would not have built our own house so quickly. Mom and I would find comfort in the idea that at least we no longer had to worry about money.
